In 2014, I stood on the start line of my first ultramarathon โ€” Race to the Stones so 2024 marks my 10th year running ultramarathons.

I was recently featured in a film called Her Ultra, celebrating the journey of 8 ordinary women to the start line of a 250km/155-mile race above the Arctic Circle.

Female participation rate in trail running has grown to almost 50% in the last 25 years but struggles to reach a mere 10% at many longer and more technical events such as the UTMB Mont-Blanc or The Spine Race.

Hannah Walsh Coaching was founded in 2020 to help change the narrative and level the start line at endurance races.

I am completely obsessed with giving you the skills and confidence to support more women onto ultramarathon start lines from the back to the front of the pack and everyone in between.

I understand how it feels to think youโ€™re not good enough for a running coach or to feel like you have to be ready for one.

AND IT BREAKS MY HEART TO SEE YOU PUT YOUR RUNNING GOALS ON THE BACK BURNER FOR ANOTHER YEAR BECAUSE YOU THINK THEY DONโ€™T MATTER.

Nobody should have to experience tumbleweeds blowing through TrainingPeaks with the infrequent thumbs-up emoji on your workout or a panic WhatsApp message the day before race day.

Nor should you have to experience a professional athlete turned running coach who writes you another copy-and-paste cookie-cutter training plan, then checks out until race day.

I know what it feels like to think youโ€™re just another number of their overflowing roster of athletes. Or that your running goals donโ€™t matter because you wonโ€™t be finishing on the podium any time soon. Because iโ€™ve been there.

HEREโ€™S THE TRUTH

Cookie-cutter training plans are not tailored to you or your goals.

They donโ€™t allow for proper rest and recovery when life gets busy or you get sick.

Or take into account how much time you can realistically commit to training.

You donโ€™t need to be a professional athlete to hire a running coach.

Or need to run 100 miles a week to be fit enough to take on these crazy distances.

And it doesnโ€™t matter at what stage or step you are in your running journey. Or how fast or slow you think you are.

What matters to me is that you are willing to show up each day and do the work.

And youโ€™re committed to the long haul and want to be doing this for decades to come.
