Which Trail Running Shoes Are Best for Wide Feet: My Top Picks for 2025

Finding the right trail running shoe to suit you, like nutrition, is such a personal topic. Whilst there are plenty of options out there to suit various types of trails, it can be slightly overwhelming if you’re just getting started.

Why might you need a wide-fitting trail running shoe?

Squashed toes, bunions, neuromas and new blisters might all be tell-tale signs that you should be wearing a wide-fitting trail running shoe.

And if you’re training for ultramarathon distances (running or hiking) where you’re on your feet for prolonged periods of time for back-to-back days, there is even more of a reason to be wearing a wide fit especially if the event will take place in warmer conditions.

One of the most common questions I get asked is:

“Are trail running shoes good for hiking?”

They are a great alternative to traditional hiking boots as they give you more freedom to move on the trails. Most hiking boots are usually waterproof which means if you’re out in warmer conditions, your feet are likely to overheat and sweat. Since most trail running shoes are not waterproof they make for the perfect switch.
